FedEx has joined Hyperledger consortium along with Honeywell and 12 blockchain startups according to a press release published September 26.
Hyperledger enables organizations to build industrial grade applications on blockchain and is hosted by the Linux Foundation.
Hyperledger consortium has grown to around over 270 members including IBM, Intel, Deutsche Boerse, and J.P. Morgan.
“We are gaining traction around the world in market segments from finance to healthcare and government to logistics. This growth and diversity is a signal of the increasing recognition of the strategic value of enterprise blockchain and commitment to the adoption and development of open source frameworks to drive new business models.”
Hyperledger Executive Director Brian Behlendorf added.
FedEx is already a member of the Blockchain in Transport Alliance (BiTA) and the Blockchain Research Institute.
FedEx CEO Fred Smith believes that blockchain is the “next frontier” for global supply chains with the inherent decentralization and transparent tracking ecosystems.
